Singing In The Rain

Let us pray together:

Thank you Lord for being all beginnings and all endings. In the morning you cradle the world and in the evening you heal our wounds so we can fight another day; You are the morning dew and the evening mist; You are the early morning sun kissing the potential of a new day and you are the twilight whispering promises yet to come.

We sing of sorrows and laugh at mistakes; we dance in the rain and laugh at the wind; we dream of things yet to come and believe the things we hope for, the evidence of thing unseen.

When our faith falters and our hopes crash upon the craggy rocks of ambition, renew our strength; let us be caught into your loving arms when we faint and lifted up as we struggle to rise above circumstances that seek our demise. You are a great and mighty God who helps us to live above our circumstances.

It is in the name of Gratitude we pray, Amen.

Defeats Do Not Define Us

Early we seek your face this morning thankful for a moment of rest. Thank you for the restorative powers of sleep and the refreshment of rest. Thank you that both were apart of our nighttime hours.

Forgive us again for sins committed by thought word and deed. Help us to release those who have sinned against us through forgiveness.

In Jesus name, assist us in learning from our mistakes. We know its because of your love you chastise us. Thank God our defeats do not define us nor are we doomed to repeat a negative past. Amen.

Morning Refresher Course

God of this brand new day, we welcome you with our many morning moods. Some of us greeted the day with joy and anticipation. Praise dripped from our lips. Some of us barely made it though the night while others couldn’t wait for a fresh start and a new beginning. Some of us dreaded the issues we must face today while others view the challenges as opportunities to be conduits of your power.

Forgive us when we talked with others before talking to You. Forgive us when we sought your hand before we sought your face.

Whatever the circumstance, refresh us with your spirit. Teach us again to lift our faces towards the promise of a new day. Show us again how to transform the rise and grind to the rise and shine!

Help us to remember the times when grace met us unexpectedly. Wash us with new morning mercies. Help us to grow beyond the mistakes of the past and keep us from new evils that seek to disrupt and devour. Provide the resources for our rescue and redemption today and always…in Christ’s name. Amen.

Open Eye Thanksgiving

"O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good; for his loving-kindness endures forever."
Psalm 118:29

Open our eyes today to see all that we should be thankful for even if at the present moment our problems, pain or need might lead us to believe that we have no thanksgiving. Open our eyes to your unfailing goodness. Help us to see that you are working behind the scenes of our lives to usher us into a season of restoration and reconciliation... and for this, we are thankful.
Enter our hearts and clear away anything that prevents an attitude of gratitude.

With eyes wide open we see that we have been blessed with every spiritual blessing. Every good and perfect gift has graciously come from your hand. Thank you Lord, for all you have done for us. In Jesus Name, Amen.

On the Road Again

My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going. I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end. Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so. But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you. And I hope that I have that desire in all that I am doing. I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire. And I know that if I do this you will lead me by the right road though I may know nothing about it. Therefore will I trust you always though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death. I will not fear, for you are ever with me, and will never leave me to face my perils alone.

Prayer of Thomas Merton

MORNING, NOON AND NIGHT PRAYER ASSIGNMENT:

Pray today that signs and wonders will follow the preached Word of God!

Call And Response

“I love he Lord, because he heard my voice and my supplications. Because he inclined his ear to me, therefore I will call on him as long as I love.

Psalm 116: 1-2

We stop long enough today to remember that you have been kind enough to hear our voices lifted in prayer and petition. At times our voices were amazed at the unprecedented opportunities you sent in our direction. Our voices were sometimes filled with awe and wonder as we considered your great majesty. Our voices were angry because of some difficulty and you responded with patience.

We praise you, Maker and Ruler of all, for your listening ear. Forgive us when we called on others before we called you. Grant us this day to no only call but spend time in your presence listening for Your still small voice whispering the mysteries of the universe.

Psalm 121: 8

Great God of Creation, call us today to a greater devotion to love and serve you.

Help us to turn away from impulses that dishonor your glory.

Help us to resist the temptations that distract us from our spiritual disciplines.

Help us to deny the fear that if we give what we have we will have less.

Help us to discern that by giving we shall receive more.

Help us to discover a richer faith that holds up under pressure, high gasoline prices, unemployment, and deployment, mortgage and nuclear reactor meltdowns, polluted water and soil, infants, adolescents and aging parents.

Let each step taken today lead us to know that we are preserved by You, accompanied by You, ruled by You, and guarded by You, now and forever more, in Jesus name, Amen.

Enough is Enough

“You have circled this mountain long enough. Now turn north,”

Deuteronomy 2: 3

Awaken us, to this new day of opportunity. We confess that we have become complacent walking around our mountain of challenges and change. We have made the wilderness a comfort zone. We have made honest labor and its rewards our security blanket. We have become so obsessed with evil in high places that we no longer recognize it in all places. Forgive us when we’ve allowed the madness of the rich and famous to control our viewing habits and influence the definition of success.

Awaken us O God. We have been marking time in this border country long enough. You are calling us forward to possess the land of your promise. Help us today to dream new dreams, discover and mobilize overlooked resources, stir up the spiritual gifts within us, and show us the way forward.

In Jesus name, we pray for one another along this journey. Help those whose faith has faltered or for whom trust is a distant memory. We pray that the strength of your love will transcend the brokenness of body, mind and spirit. Amen

Being with God

Let us pray this personal petition together:

O God, I rejoice today that I can spend time just being with you. No matter how much I love those you placed in my life, I love being alone in your presence for this moment. Let me fall into your arms, again. Let me taste and see that you are good, again. Let me drink deeply from your refreshing pools of living water, again. Feed me, O bread of heaven until I want no more.
Keeping company with you, the source of all wisdom, knowledge and power, leads to a greater revelation beyond human achievement.
Tutor my spirit, when I need to be challenged
Assure my heart when fear seeks to overtake my faith; and
Satisfy our hunger for certainty and control.

Just being with you helps us to entrust our lives to you more and more each day realizing that you are closer to us than we are to ourselves.
In Jesus name,
Amen

What About the Children?

O sing unto the Lord a new song, sing unto the Lord, all the earth. Psalm 96:1

Let's sing a song today filled with the melodies of faith not fear and hope not harassment.
Today, we lift our voices for the young. Lord, help them as they aspire to make this a better world. We lift our voices for our sons and daughters. We pray that their zeal and idealism will be nurtured towards responsible action. We pray for the mature. Our prayer is that they fulfill their purpose in the uniqueness of their personalities and responsibilities. We pray for those who need sustenance and provision. We pray for those who cannot grow beyond sorrow and for the sick in body, mind or spirit that they may prosper and be in good health according to your word.

Yes, let us continue to sing new songs, filled with praise and thanksgiving!

Trusting God for Everything!

" Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thy own understanding;.. "
Proverbs 3: 5-6

Today Lord, we are grateful that trust and thanksgiving will get us through anything we must face. Help us to trust you all the more with everything and for everything. When we trust in You, trust protects us from constant worry. When we thank you in everything and for everything with our whole heart, gratitude keeps us from complaining.

Help us to trust and obey. Banish troubles to the periphery of our minds as we lean not to our own understanding. In Jesus Name, Amen.

"I lift up my eyes to the hills from where my help come. My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth."
Psalm 121:1

Lord of heaven and earth, we come to you in weakness seeking your strength. Our lives are too empty without your joy. Our burdens become too heavy without your help. Our fears run away with us without your peace. Our anger becomes too destructive without your love.

Our world has become fractured, hungry and hurting. We look to you for help. Help us Lord and give us the power to help, and make our helping effective. In Jesus Name, Amen

Glorifying God

"...do all to the glory of God"
I Corinthians 10:31

In the quiet moments of prayer, we sincerely reach out to you O Lord, our God in the midst of cultural pluralism that presents challenges to the way we see and hear you. Thank you for your persistent love that transcends the troubles of this world to sustain us in seasons of joy and sorrow.

Forgive us for giving our best to the wrong things. Forgive us for giving our best efforts to trivial pursuits and our meager contributions to major kingdom service. Forgive us when we fail to do all to the glory of God whether in desire, drink, dress, conversation, thought and action.

Guide us so that we will know what is important and unimportant, spiritual and carnal. Empower us to do the things that truly matter so that the things that don't matter will not occupy too much of our time. In Jesus Name, Amen.

MORNING, NOON AND NIGHT

During the season of Lent we are committed to increase our prayer time from one to three times daily in the morning, a noon and at night before going to bed. Partner with someone who will either remind of the prayer time and/or pray with you. Your prayer time can be as long or short as you desire. It is not the length of he prayer but the sincerity of the petition.

Pray that the service they render is effective and efficient. You Have Not Because You Ask Not

"You want what you don't have, so you scheme and kill to get it. You are jealous of what others have, but you can't get it, so you fight and wage war to take it away from them. Yet you don't have what you want because you don't ask God for it."
James 4:2

Lord, forgive us for being so busy we fail to ask you for what we want and need. Forgive us for depending upon human effort and strength to obtain the desires of our hearts. Forgive us for developing schemes to undermine the efforts of others because we want to take their place or we want what they have. Forgive us for coveting our neighbors stuff to point where we are willing to do emotional or bodily harm to take it away from them. Thank you Lord, that after we have confessed you are faithful to forgive.

We come humbly now knowing you are the supplier of all our needs. We come repentant realizing that you are the one who grants us the desires of our hearts. We come to you now remembering that you are the source of every good a perfect gift. We ask now in Jesus name that we may be empowered to bring forth fruit for your glory and not for our self-satisfaction. In Jesus name, Amen.

We Need You Now!

Gracious God, Father of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We need you. We need you in our homes. We need you in our schools, we need you at our jobs. We need you in our neighborhoods. We need you in our relationships. We need you in our churches. We need you on our military bases.

Lord, we need you to come into our lives and reign over us and through us. We have not been who you have called us to be. We have become anxious and we are even becoming weary in well doing. Lord, we need more than mere words can say. Lord we need healing in our nation and in our world, in our bodies and in our minds. Lord, we need peace that surpassess all our understanding. Lord, still our hearts, ease our troubled minds and instill in us your righteousness that our living will not be in vain.

Teach us what it means to comfort and show compassion to our neighbor. Instill in us a new walk and a new talk that we are able to effectively articulate your power through our actions.
In the name of Jesus we pray.

Counting on God

“I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate.

Romans 7: 15

O God, we come today confessing that we can count on you more than you can count on us. We can count on you to deal with us according to your mercy and not according to our sins. We can count on you to forgive after confession. We can count on you to be with us, never leaving nor forsaking us even when we tend to stray like sheep.

Forgive us O God because no matter how hard we try, we do what we don’t want to do and don’t do what we should. We truly and earnestly repent of our sins and are heartily sorrow for these our transgressions. Renew right spirits. Create clean hearts.

Enable us to move beyond our past sins and embrace the future with renewed hope and confidence. We give ourselves to you again. In Jesus name, clothe us in your light, for we would be children of light. Amen

Early Will I Seek Thee

"O God, Thou art my God. Early will I seek thee…"
Psalm 63:1
O God, I come to you in the darkness of the morning
I come just as I am starting to hear the birds singing praise to you
I come before the phone starts to ring, before messages are texted or tweeted
I come to You, O God, before the flood of emails and voicemails
I come before I remember tasks left undone from yesterday
I come before the uncertainty of tomorrow becomes fear
I come before I try to live out my own plan
I come before temptation ripens
I come to You, O God, before competing voices can influence
I come before I can mistake my thoughts for Your voice
I come before I can remember all I want from you and all I want you to do for me
I come, early in this morning, to say I love You and I thank You for loving me
Thank you for giving me this day – now, I give it back to you: live today in me live through me love through me bless through me empower through me rescue through me give joy through me O God, I come to you in the darkness of the morning, like Jesus did, to make your will my will.

Never Alone

“If I take the wings of the morning and settle at the farthest limits of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me fast.”

Psalm 139: 9-10

Gracious God, it is by your power we are able to stand. It is by your grace we are able to abound and it is by your mercy we are able to live. It is because of your presence our hearts are secured.

When we thought we were all alone, you whispered that you would never leave us nor forsake us. When we thought all seemed lost, the Sonlight of love broke through our darkness.

Forgive us when organized our pity parties and invited others to share in the desperate moments when fear gripped our hearts. Forgive us when we pouted and doubted your presence and power.

Lift the scales from our eyes so that we can see you working behind the scenes of our lives. Elevate our vision to the mountaintops, enabling us to scale the heights and leave the land of pity parties behind. In Jesus name, renew our rejoicing.

Prayer Power

“So I turned to the Lord God and pleaded with him in prayer and petition, in fasting and in sackcloth and ashes.”

Daniel 9:3

O God, who makes all things new, we come to you this morning to help us see where something new is needed. Smooth out our rough edges. Stir up the gifts that have become stagnant. Liberate what has become stuck in the muck and mire of crises.

We pray for those who are in need that they find help today: For those who are bullied, may they find the protection or the courage they need. For those who are sick, may they find healing in the hem of your garment; those who face financial catastrophe or foreclosure, may they find relief; those who are hungry may they find sustenance at your table. In Jesus name, may those who are lost find their way in you! Amen.

Forgiveness is Priceless

“The Work of following Christ is like working with a psychotherapist who has a clear insight into what is wrong with us. With incredible accuracy, God puts his finger on exactly the spot that needs attention at the precise time in our spiritual growth. If we are hanging on one last shred of possessiveness, he comes along and says, often through some person or event, “Won’t you give this to me?”

Thomas Keating Invitation to Love

Eternal and all wise God, I release everything and everyone into your care. I’ve held on to stuff so long I forgot to trust you, the one from whom all blessings flow. Forgive me for trying to take your place to do things beyond my mortal resume.

Thank you for putting your divine finger in the exact place on my spiritual landscape that needs attention. Thank you for waiting until the moment was ripe for intervention. I appreciate how you confirmed through others it was time to let go. Yes Lord, I give you everything and everyone trusting you leaning not unto my own understanding. In Jesus name, Amen.

One More Time!

Almighty and Eternal God, we are yours, joint heirs with Christ to all your gracious gifts. No matter in what direction we look, the evidence of your work confronts us. You have been working behind the scenes of our lives. What could have been jangling discords, you have made it into a melodious symphony of purpose and power. What could have been confusion, you have turned it into order. What could have been isolation, you've moved us into fellowship. What could have been condemnation, there is now no condemnation but deliverance.

Thank you for being present in more ways that we can count. Now, in the name of our gracious Lord, do it again, one more time! Amen.

"Listen! I am standing at the door knocking; if you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in to you and eat with you, and be with you."
Revelation 3: 20

Gracious God, we hear your knocking and open the door so that you can be with us throughout this day. The urgency of our times and of our needs make it imperative that we receive all the help you offer to us.

Come among us today! Bless us with you presence! Empower us to bring words of eternal life to those who are dying. Enable us to utter a word of love to those who are at war with themselves and you. Show us how to give words of hope to those in despair. Help us to bring words of forgiveness to those who are drowning in a sea of sins. In Jesus name, send us to tell others of the faith we have found in Christ, Amen.

Dance In Your Presence!

O God, we open ourselves with great anticipation to the experiences of a brand new day. Create in us a clean heart, renew a right spirit and a boldness that keeps us lifting the name of Jesus in the world.

Strengthen our conviction to incorporate your teachings about love, grace, and service into our lives. Thank you for creating channels of service in the marketplace and around the dinner table.

May we dance in your presence embracing a love so divine. In the name of whose way we follow and in whose name we pray, Amen.
