Call And Response

“I love he Lord, because he heard my voice and my supplications. Because he inclined his ear to me, therefore I will call on him as long as I love.

Psalm 116: 1-2

We stop long enough today to remember that you have been kind enough to hear our voices lifted in prayer and petition. At times our voices were amazed at the unprecedented opportunities you sent in our direction. Our voices were sometimes filled with awe and wonder as we considered your great majesty. Our voices were angry because of some difficulty and you responded with patience.

We praise you, Maker and Ruler of all, for your listening ear. Forgive us when we called on others before we called you. Grant us this day to no only call but spend time in your presence listening for Your still small voice whispering the mysteries of the universe.

Your prayer assignment today is to pray for caregivers. Pray for those who see to the needs of ailing loved ones or those with diminished capacity at home.

Listening Prayer

Exhale and inhale until you are relaxed. Now pray:

“My Lord and My God, listening is hard for me. I do not exactly mean hard, for I understand that this is a matter of receiving rather than trying. What I mean is that I am so action oriented, so product driven, that doing is easier than being. I need your help if I am to be still and listen. I would like to try. I would like to learn how to sink down into the light of your presence until I can become comfortable in that posture. Help me to try now.

Thank you. – Amen”

Eternity's Embrace

Let us prayer together:

In the quiet of the night
My soul reaches for you
I breathe deep
As I feel Eternity
Embracing me…
In the midnight hour
I whisper my prayer
Knowing that you hear me
I am able to close my eyes
As I breathe (inhale)
(exhale) Just breathe
Listening
As you speak
In a still small voice
That summons me
Down the path
Of my greatest good
As I journey
I see the manger
The cross
The tomb
And I rejoice as I
Dance
Just dance
Into the Light
of Eternity.

A Listening Place

"Give ear and come to me; hear me, that your soul may live..."
Isaiah 55:3

Dear God,

I really do want to be like Jesus, not only in my works, but also in my ability to get by myself and listen to your voice. I am so accustomed to the sounds around me until I am not sure I know how to stop listening to them. I know I must learn to listen attentively to your voice. I humbly ask you to teach me how to be, how to listen.

Amen.
